Football fanatic, Tommy Barnes, found himself in a rugby only school.
Whilst at Crowhurst school, Tommy met Ginger Collins who was as useless
at football as was Tommy at studying. Tommy and Ginger formed a
friendship where by Ginger would help Tommy with his studies and Tommy
would help Ginger with his footballing skills.
Because Crowhurst was a rugby only school, Tommy and
Ginger had to persuade the headmaster to allow the formation of a
football team. The headmaster's only condition was that Tommy joined the
rugby team also. Starting a football team at the rugby only school
annoyed the two top rugby players at the school, Adam Waller an Cyril
Swate. Waller and Swate spent all their time attempting to disrupt the
efforts of the football team.
In latter issues of Roy of the Rovers comic, Tommy and a
group of friends including Ginger Collins got hold of some land, built a
clubhouse and set up their own team called Barnes United.
Tommy's Trouble was one of the best loved and longest
running strips in the comic and it's run came to an end after nearly ten
years. |
